Terms of use
Effective September 8, 2026.
By requesting a report or leaving an email address on this site you agree to these terms and to the privacy notice. They are brief, and their main purpose is to make clear what a report is and is not.
What a report is
A report is an estimate. It is computed from publicly broadcast aircraft position data recorded over one week and from published noise data for each type of aircraft. Nothing is measured at your address. The method is the one used by aviation regulators for noise mapping, applied to the aircraft that actually flew, and it is good to a few decibels. Differences and rankings are more reliable than any single number.
What a report is not
- It is not a measurement, and it is not a survey of your property.
- It is not a statement about any particular operator, airport or agency. Each flight listed in the report is identified by aircraft type and registered owner, taken from the public FAA aircraft registry, and by the airline and flight number the aircraft was broadcasting, or by its tail number where it was not flying for an airline. Where the registry records the owner as a private individual rather than an organization, no owner is shown.
- It is not advice, and it is not suitable for legal, regulatory, insurance, valuation or commercial reliance. Where a decision depends on a sound level, obtain a measurement.
Using the site
- The site is offered free, for personal use, "as is." We may change it, limit it, or withdraw it at any time.
- Each visitor may request a small number of reports a day. Automated requests, scraping, and attempts to get around the limits or the bot check are not permitted.
- A report link may be shared. Whoever has the link can see the report and the address it was made for.
- You may quote or reproduce a report for personal, non-commercial purposes with proper attribution: name Noise Overhead as the source, and say that the levels are estimates.
If you leave an email address we will send one message when our service to order and generate full reports is available, and nothing else. Leave only an address that is yours. If you receive a message from us that you did not request, you may disregard it; no further messages will be sent. You can ask us to take an address off the list at any time, and we will; the privacy notice says what that leaves behind.
No warranty, limited liability
The site and its reports are provided "as is" and "as available," without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including any implied warranty of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, completeness or availability. To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for any loss, damage or decision arising from use of the site or reliance on a report, and because the site is free, our total liability to you is limited to the amount you paid for it, which is nothing.
Some jurisdictions do not allow certain warranties to be excluded or liability to be limited; where that is so, the exclusion or limitation applies only to the extent the law permits.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Florida and the United States, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Any dispute arising from them or from use of the site will be brought in the state or federal courts located in Florida, and you consent to their jurisdiction.
General
If any part of these terms is found unenforceable, the rest still applies. These terms and the privacy notice are the whole agreement between you and us about the site.
Changes
We may revise these terms from time to time. A revision takes effect on the date shown at the top of this page, and continued use of the site after that date constitutes acceptance of the revised terms.
